A Volunteer with a Senior

Volunteers are key contributors to the success of MidPen Resident Services’ programs. In the last year alone, volunteers donated nearly 6,000 hours. Their energy, skills, creativity and time benefit both our residents and our staff and help us accomplish our mission.

With almost 60 service locations for youth, adults, families and seniors across 9 Bay Area counties, there are many ways for volunteers to get involved – both ongoing and short-term. Our volunteers:

  • Mentor and tutor youth
  • Assist with educational and recreational field trips
  • Provide computer skills training
  • Teach ESL, art, Tai-Chi and many other classes
  • Assist with food distribution and special resident events
  • Share a special talent, such as knitting or cooking, or lead an activity

“When I first began as a volunteer tutor, I planned on doing a lot of teaching. What I didn’t expect was how much I would learn, both from the program coordinators and from the students themselves. I’ve had experiences I never thought I would have, and have made friends of some of the most impressive people. Volunteering has been both a growing experience and a pleasure that I will truly never forget.”
