A MidPen Board Member since 2012 and currently Board Chair, Kim is the CEO & Founder of A2Q2, a Special Ops team for finance departments. A2Q2 helps growth companies solve challenges in SOX compliance and readiness, internal controls and accounting processes and systems. Key clients have included Airbnb, Square, Stanford University and Uber.
Kim’s passion for community building resulted in her founding Directors League, a peer-to-peer community of exclusively board members currently serving on public – particularly tech – companies.
Kim’s humble beginnings are the foundation for her firm’s purpose of “expanding your superpowers.” She, along with her mom and baby brother, were among the “boat people” from Vietnam who escaped to Malaysia. Kim spent one year in a refugee camp before coming to the US. Kim started her public accounting career with Arthur Andersen. In 2003, Kim founded A2Q2 to successfully sponsor work visas for two friends, growing the firm to 100+ people. In 2010, the National Council of Asian American Business Association selected Kim as Asian Business Woman of the Year. In 2009, the California Public Utility Commission recognized Kim with the Women in Business Excellence Award.
In her spare time, Kim runs Tough Mudder events, gets roughed up in kickboxing and crashes motorcycles. (There’s a reason her nickname is “Kickass Kim!”)
