Bay Area Wildfires: A Message from Matt Franklin

MidPen Residents, Employees, Partners, and Friends,

As several wildfires continue to burn around the Bay Area mandatory evacuations are underway in several counties where our communities are located – including Monterey, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and Solano.  While firefighters work hard to contain the fires, we are monitoring conditions around the region closely. Our team is ready to assist residents with evacuation; connect residents with local supports as needed; and secure and protect our properties during mandatory evacuations.  As of Thursday, August 20, 2020, only one (1) of MidPen’s communities has been issued a mandatory evacuation. All residents were able to leave the property safely and secure temporary accommodations.

The safety of MidPen’s employees and residents is our top priority. We have strong safety protocols in place as a result of COVID-19 and its continued effects on our communities.  The wildfires have added a level of complexity and concern, resulting in immediate safety risks to some residents and region-wide poor air quality that can increase risk of COVID-19. As such, we are stepping up our procurement to supply additional personal protective equipment to employees.  Our response protocol to the wildfires include door-to-door notification to our residents when warnings are issued, providing them the information necessary to begin making plans to evacuate.  When mandatory evacuations are issued, we will leverage door-to-door notification as well as voice and text messaging to all residents.  Communication can be challenging in times such as these.  As such, we encourage everyone in the Bay Area that is impacted by wildfires to register at www.nixle.com to receive up-to-date information from local safety officials.

As current conditions evolve, we will continue to provide further updates.

Be safe, be well, and thank you for your support.

Matthew O. Franklin,

President and CEO
