Yes on Proposition 1 – Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026

Proposition 1 – the Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026 – will authorize an $11.25 billion investment that will fast-track the construction, rehabilitation and preservation of affordable housing, and homeownership programs. This funding will provide safe, affordable homes for California's working families, veterans, low-income seniors on fixed incomes, farmworkers, tribal communities, survivors of domestic violence and their families, students, people with disabilities, as well as at risk and foster youth. The bond will support the creation and preservation of tens of thousands of affordable homes all the while maximizing public dollars by leveraging outside investment. MidPen emphatically urges California voters to vote Yes on Proposition 1 to provide the investment needed to meet our state’s most pressing issue.

No on Proposition 43 – The Local Taxpayer Deception Act

Proposition 43’s heightened voter threshold will make it difficult for communities to raise and spend money to address concerns specific to their city or county by requiring a two-thirds supermajority in place of a simple majority. Locally, measures such as the City of Santa Cruz’s 2025 Measure C funding affordable housing, Santa Clara County’s 2025 Measure A for health care services and Sonoma County’s 2024 Measure H for fire protection would not have made it to the finish line – all received less than a two-thirds vote. Proposition 43 disempowers communities from being able to invest in critical public infrastructure – we recommend a "no" vote.
