FAIRFIELD, CA, October 9, 2024—Residents, elected officials, and public- and private-sector partners gathered today to celebrate the grand opening of Fair Haven Commons, a development of MidPen Housing.

The new community provides 72 affordable rental homes for families, including 44 apartments with a preference for people who have experienced homelessness or have other supportive housing needs. The studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments are affordable to residents earning 20%-60% of Area Median Income ($16,020-$68,640, depending on household size). Fair Haven Commons, an all-electric property, is MidPen’s third community in the City of Fairfield.

Resident amenities, designed to encourage socialization and create a thriving community, include a multi-purpose community room with a kitchen, an activity room, landscaped outdoor recreation areas, picnic tables with barbecue, bike racks, and secure bike parking. The development is located next to Dover Park, a public park offering a play structure, fishing pond, and walking paths, and less than a mile from a public library branch, a supermarket, and other commercial services.

“Fair Haven Commons represents the vision to transform a previously underutilized, vacant lot into much-needed family and supportive housing,” said Matthew O. Franklin, President and CEO of MidPen Housing. “We’re grateful to the Fairfield Housing Authority for its early commitment to the development, and we applaud the City, Solano County, and all of our partners for their support, which was critical to creating 72 new homes for people in need.”

“This project is another significant step forward–supporting individuals of all income levels who need that hand-up, providing the appropriate resources, and creating pride and community for those who may not have felt it in a while,” said Fairfield Mayor Catherine Moy. “We’re on the right track, and I am very excited for future endeavors with our trusted partners, including everyone here today, who share the goal of safe, affordable housing in Fairfield.”

“MidPen is an industry leader in affordable housing and longtime partner of ours,” said Daniel Perl, Managing Director at Wells Fargo, Community Lending & Investment. “We have worked with MidPen to finance affordable housing developments throughout the Bay Area for more than two decades and are thrilled to help create new units here in Solano County.”

Financing for Fair Haven Commons was provided through both public and private sources including the City of Fairfield, Fairfield Housing Authority, Wells Fargo Bank, California Community Reinvestment Corporation, California Department of Housing and Community Development, Solano County, Community Action Partnership of Solano, Joint Powers Authority (CAP Solano JPA), Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, and the California Energy Commission. The architect is Mogavero Architects and the general contractor is Deacon Construction.
