FOSTER CITY, CA, September 5, 2024—MidPen Housing announced it has promoted Brenda Castillo-Garza to Senior Vice President and Head of MidPen Resident Services Corporation, which provides onsite services to support advancement of 20,000+ residents in the areas of education, health, and economic mobility. In her new role, Brenda will lead a 140-person team and manage an annual department budget of $14 million. MidPen is one of the most trusted nonprofit developers, owners, and managers of high-quality affordable housing in Northern California.
Brenda joined MidPen Resident Services in 2012 as a recognized innovator in after-school programming. Since then, she has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and earned successive promotions as she expanded family and youth programs, took on management of a large region, and oversaw a $1+ million Investment Fund effort to bring English as a Second Language and digital skill-building to residents. Brenda was promoted to Vice President in January 2024 and became Interim Head of Services in April.

A native of San José, Brenda began her career in education, working in the community college sector to provide opportunities for students and leading efforts to reach middle and high school students. Later, working with the San José State University Research Foundation, Brenda led an after-school program cohort supporting over 3,000 youth and their parents to successfully navigate the academic system and pursue higher education. She holds an M.A. in Education with a concentration in Counseling and Student Personnel from San José State University, and a B.A. in Sociology and Spanish from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
