In her own words:
I work for the Pajaro Valley Unified School District as a behavioral health technician, helping special ed students. I’m a single individual, and I have full custody of my 16-year old nephew, who’s part of the baseball program at Aptos High–he’s doing fantastic there. The way prices are though, if it wasn’t for this apartment, I’d have to leave the area and move in with my parents, and my nephew would have to leave his school.
After being on the housing list for eight years, moving into Bienestar Plaza was a dream come true. It’s probably my favorite home I’ve lived in to date, because it’s beautiful, clean, and so close to everything—Coffeetopia, Live Oak Super, and I’m not even talking about the beach! It’s also given me the opportunity to stay in the area and pursue my dream of working in behavioral sciences.
Bienestar feels like a real community. It’s a pleasure to find out that there are some individuals with special needs here, and maybe I can do something to help and be a part of it. I cannot express my gratitude enough—just the fact that I was able to find affordable housing means everything to me.
