SONOMA, CA, October 8, 2025—Public- and private-sector partners gathered today to celebrate the construction framing of Summer Oaks, one of six MidPen Housing communities in Sonoma County.
When complete in Fall 2026, Summer Oaks will provide 72 affordable one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for families with incomes up to 60% AMI (currently $75,480 for a family of four), including 52 homes reserved for residents who work in farming and agriculture. Eighteen of the apartments carry project-based vouchers, providing an even deeper level of affordability; two of those units will have dedicated referrals from Sonoma County’s Coordinated Entry System.
Summer Oaks residents will enjoy a large community room with kitchen, a community courtyard, a learning center, and a play area for children. A laundry room, mail room, secure bike storage, and parking will also be included. Residents will have access to nearby amenities such as soccer and baseball fields, a large playground, picnic sites, and nature trails at Maxwell Farms Regional Park. Groceries, restaurants, retail, health care, and public transportation are within walking distance of the property.
MidPen Property Management will professionally manage the community, and MidPen Resident Services will provide free, comprehensive, on-site services that support residents’ education, physical and mental health, and economic mobility.
“We applaud the State and County leadership and all of our partners for their commitment to much-needed housing, especially for farmworkers who play an essential role in the region’s economy,” said Joanna Carman, Senior Vice President and Co-Head of Housing Development for MidPen. “We can’t wait to welcome 72 families home to Summer Oaks!”
“As the cost of living across the North Bay continues to rise, projects like Summer Oaks are critical in ensuring quality affordable housing for working families and to those in our ag sector. Bank of America provided construction and equity financing for this project that also includes onsite supportive services for residents and the surrounding community,” said Jason Foster, Bank of America North Bay President. “Today’s wall raising is a symbol of public-private partnership in action led by longtime developer partner MidPen along with federal, state, and Sonoma County support.”
Financing for the development was provided through both public and private sources including the County of Sonoma, the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Joe Serna, Jr. Farmworker Housing Grant and Infill Infrastructure Grant programs, Bank of America, N.A., the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, and the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee. The architect for Summer Oaks is Mithun and the general contractor is Midstate Construction.
