Shorebreeze Apartments, which consisted of 120 units for families and seniors, was originally built in 1980 and MidPen Housing acquired the community in 1997. In order to maintain quality and preserve affordability in the long-run, MidPen is renovating the community. Construction began in spring 2019 and will complete in December 2019. The scope of work for Shorebreeze includes cosmetic improvements to its exteriors, replacing interior windows and sliders in apartments, new landscaping, improvements to the existing emergency vehicle access road, and a 700 square-foot expansion of the community room. All work will be completed with residents still able to reside in their apartment homes. A total of 108 apartments at Shorebreeze will undergo renovation; 62 new affordable apartments will be built, totalling 170 apartments and a net gain of 50 apartments. When renovation and new construction is complete, Shorebreeze will operate as one seamless affordable housing community.
