Maryce Freelen Place

Description

The City of Mountain View turned to MidPen Housing to transform the former Latham Park into Maryce Freelen Place, an affordable housing community for families. Once wracked by crime, gang activity, and problems of deferred maintenance, MidPen Housing undertook the community’s rehabilitation, installing a safer exterior stair design, and providing new kitchens, bathrooms, carpets, and paint. Moreover, MidPen Property Management began to restructure the resident life and community security, evicting those who had been involved in drug dealing and criminal activity and taking other measures to ensure residents could thrive in their environment. After the rehabilitation of Maryce Freelan Place, several properties in the area were also upgraded. Maryce Freelan Place was recognized with a 1998 Mayor’s Award from the City of Mountain View.
